The 2015 Channel Island Chef of the Year was awarded to Pascal Lemoine from The Old Government House Hotel, receiving the accolade in front of his peers at the annual Taste Guernsey Awards Dinner on April 13 following a dinner designed to showcase the best food Guernsey has to offer. Pascal led the field ahead of second place Helder Agostinho of the Duke of Richmond and last year’s champion Simon McKenzie.
Junior Chef of the Year went to Daniel Wood of Stocks Hotel in Sark, beating joint second place chefs, Rebekah Williams, of the Rocquettes Hotel and Josh Carre, a student at the College of Further Education.
Peter and Mandy Girard won Producer of the Year for their cheese from their Golden Guernsey Goat herd. Judges said how impressed they were with the set up. Runners up in this category were Bean 14 and White Rock Brewery.
A special award was given to Ray Watts by Taste Guernsey for Outstanding Contribution.
Chair of Taste Guernsey Tony Leck said:
“The annual event celebrates the best in local food from production through to preparation and presentation. The chefs competition is organised with the Craft Guild of Chefs and judged to international standards and has grown over 7 years to be something special.”
“This event brings together a unique partnership committed to providing the very best opportunity for chefs to express their culinary talents. It’s all about developing ideas, challenging individuals to be the best and expressing their skills to make a difference.”
The awards dinner menu was also a celebration of local food including local crab and cheeses, meat, mushrooms, vegetables, herbs, apples, cider and beer.
Cimandis have remained proud sponsors of the event year on year, supplying ingredients for the Chef of the Year competition and Industry dinner, and sponsorship money enabling Taste Guernsey to continue raising funds for local food projects.
